Why Cure Times Differ Between Silicones

The curing time of silicone products can vary significantly. Some fast-setting liquid silicones are ready in as little as 3-8 hours, such as “Pure Mould”, while putty types like “I–Gum” offer a 20-minute working time and set fully after roughly 2 hours. Longer-curing silicones, like those designed for capturing extremely fine detail or larger moulds, may require 10-12 hours or more before de-moulding is possible. Formulation (platinum-cured, tin-cured, addition-elapsed catalysts), temperature, humidity, and even mould thickness all play a part in how soon silicone rubber is ready.

When selecting a silicone, consider the cure time alongside other requirements such as level of detail, compatibility with casting materials, working time, and handling.
