How to Avoid Bubbles When Pouring Resin

Pour in thin, controlled layers

Thin layers allow air to escape more easily and reduce the chance of deep trapped bubbles. For products like “Icrystal” clear epoxy resin, the recommended maximum layer is typically 1.5 cm per application, while other casting resins have different limits. Check the product data sheet before choosing a pour depth.

Pouring slowly and evenly along the surface also helps avoid folding air into the wet resin.

• Pour from a low height to reduce trapped air
• Move steadily across the area rather than pouring in one spot
• Avoid overworking the resin after it is laid down

Keep room and surface temperature within range

Resin viscosity changes with temperature. When the room and surface are within the manufacturer’s recommended range, the resin flows more readily and bubbles can rise to the surface. Cold surfaces tend to hold air, while excessive warmth can shorten working time.

Allow the resin components and the surface to stabilise at the advised temperature before mixing. Avoid pouring directly onto very cold or very hot substrates.

When bubble control matters most

Bubble control is especially important for clear coatings and table surfaces, where trapped air becomes visible once the resin cures. For 3D lawn floor resin effects, a smoother clear layer keeps the decorative finish clean and helps maintain clarity. After pouring, a gentle pass with a heat gun can pop surface bubbles. Keep the heat moving and avoid holding it too close or too long, as this can overheat the resin. For some casting resins, direct heat during curing is not advised, so check the product guidance first.
