What a crystal-clear epoxy coating does

A clear epoxy coating forms a non-porous, glass-like film that repels water and spills. On motorhome interiors, this is particularly useful around sinks, worktops and fold-down tables, where moisture can otherwise soak into exposed edges or joints. When the coating is applied in a controlled layer, it levels out to a glossy surface that can make the substrate easier to wipe clean.

Because motorhomes are subject to movement, a very hard or overly thick coat can be more likely to crack if the underlying surface flexes. For this reason, clear systems with some flexibility, UV protection or a recommended thin-pour depth are often the better starting point for interior and semi-exposed areas.

Choosing between clear epoxy layer depths

The main practical difference between clear epoxy resins is the recommended pour depth per application. For a refined coating on worktops or smooth panels, Icrystal clear epoxy resin can be applied up to 1.5 cm per layer and is described as odourless. If you want to embed objects or build a slightly thicker transparent section, Trasparente clear epoxy resin supports pours up to 2 cm.

• Up to 1.5 cm: use Icrystal for thin protective coats on tables and worktops.
• Up to 2 cm: use Trasparente for small castings, inlays or deeper clear sections.
• UV-stable choices: prioritise resins with an integrated UV filter for areas that see direct sunlight.

Always stick to the maximum layer depth stated by the manufacturer. Pouring beyond the recommended thickness in one go can generate heat and reduce clarity.

When this matters for motorhome use

A crystal-clear epoxy coating matters most when a visible surface needs practical protection without a colour change. Common examples are a bespoke table, a decorative inlay, or a plywood kitchen area that gets regular use. In these spots a clear waterproof layer can help prevent moisture ingress and make the surface more resistant to scratches and staining.

If the area will be driven over, walked on heavily or exposed to repeated mechanical wear, a tougher clear polyurethane system such as Prolux PU coating may be more appropriate than a standard epoxy. This type of coating is designed for higher-traffic conditions and can still provide a transparent, weather-resistant finish on prepared surfaces.
