What makes a water-based primer low odour

Epoxyprimer is a two-component epoxy primer that uses water as its carrier instead of harsh solvents. This water-based formulation is described as eco-friendly and odourless, and it is safe for indoor use. It forms a reliable base on surfaces such as concrete, timber, screeds and ceramic tiles.

Because the primer is water-based, it does not release the strong fumes often associated with solvent-based floor primers. This makes it a practical option when working inside a garage, particularly if the space is attached to the home or used for storage.

When this matters: enclosed garage spaces

Garages frequently have limited airflow, especially in colder months when doors are kept shut. A low-odour primer becomes more important in these conditions because it helps keep the workspace more comfortable during application and curing.

It can also be a better fit for attached garages, where odours can travel into living areas. Choosing an odourless water-based primer reduces that concern while still giving the floor a sound preparation layer.

Applying a low-odour vapour barrier primer indoors

Before application, the substrate should be clean, sound and dry. Epoxyprimer can be applied by roller, brush or spatula, with a typical consumption rate of 100–300 g/m² depending on surface porosity.

• Mix the two components thoroughly according to the product instructions.
• Apply an even coat to concrete, timber, screeds or ceramic tiles.
• Allow 24 to 48 hours at room temperature for full cure before adding further coatings.
