What determines coating life on a PVC floor

There is no single expected lifespan because wear varies with footfall, cleaning chemicals, moisture and exposure to sunlight. A coating applied over a clean, dry, well-keyed PVC surface will almost always outlast one applied over dust, polish residue or loose edges.

Two variables have the biggest practical impact:

• Preparation: Cleaning, light abrasion where needed, and a suitable primer reduce the risk of peeling or delamination.
• Product type: Two-component PU systems are typically tougher in high-traffic or damp areas than basic one-coat resin finishes.

Choosing a coating that lasts longer

When this matters

In these cases, a correctly primed two-component PU coating generally retains its appearance and adhesion for longer than a thin decorative coat.

A wet or damp PVC floor should also be evaluated carefully, because moisture can weaken the bond if the surface is not prepared and allowed to dry properly.
