Planning a resin vase project begins by working out how much resin is required to fill your chosen mould. The resin volume needed will depend largely on the vase’s shape and dimensions.
Estimating Resin Volume for Your Vase
To find out how much resin you’ll need, measure or check the volume of your mould. As a reference, a 35cm flower-shaped medium vase generally uses around 800g of resin. For cylindrical or rectangular vases, you can estimate the amount by calculating the internal volume (height × width × depth for rectangles, or π × radius² × height for cylinders) and matching the result to the resin’s density (most epoxy resins are close to 1g/ml, so 800g covers approximately 800ml of space).
Choosing the Right Resin for Vase Projects
It’s important to select a resin suited to your vase’s thickness. For layers up to 2cm, a resin like “Trasparente” Multipurpose Clear Epoxy is ideal for its clarity. If you’re working with deeper or larger vases and need to pour more than 2cm in a single layer, a deep-pour resin such as “EpoxyTable 5-Five” is more suitable. When Precise Resin Quantities Matter
Accurately measuring your resin helps reduce waste and ensures a consistent finish. This is especially important when creating layered or coloured effects, or when resin supplies are limited. Keep in mind that overfilling can lead to spillage, while underfilling may result in incomplete coverage or bubbles.
