What UV and weather resistance means for Prolux

Prolux is a two-component aliphatic polyurethane coating with stated resistance to UV rays, yellowing and weathering. This makes it suitable for exterior applications as well as interior surfaces that receive regular sunlight. The product is CE marked to EN 1504-2, with a Declaration of Performance, and is mixed at a 2:1 ratio. It is available in gloss or satin and can be customised in multiple colours, so the protective benefits do not have to compromise a chosen silver grey tone.

Using Prolux on kitchen tiles and other surfaces

Prolux is suitable for tiles, concrete, fibreglass, plastic and properly prepared steel. For kitchen tiles being repainted or coated in a silver grey finish, the surface should be clean, dry and prepared according to the product instructions before application. The coating is designed to resist abrasion, so it can handle foot traffic and everyday cleaning in a busy kitchen.

When this matters

UV and weathering resistance becomes especially relevant when a surface is positioned near large windows, patio doors or skylights, or when it is used outdoors on balconies, steps or external parking areas. In these situations, a coating without sufficient UV stability can gradually yellow or lose its original colour, which is more visible on light silver grey tones.

If the same project also involves exterior repairs or vertical stone work, a product such as “Magelstick” – Epoxy Mastic for Stone, Metal, and Cement Bonding and Grouting may be worth considering, as it also offers UV and weather resistance for outdoor use. However, for a full protective topcoat on tiles and similar surfaces, Prolux is the more direct option.
