← Back to How to protect a photo with clear resin?

Mixing and pouring clear resin properly is crucial when protecting a treasured photo. Careful technique helps achieve a smooth, bubble-free finish and ensures your image remains in pristine condition for years to come.
Mastering the Mix: Preparation is Key
Start by carefully measuring your resin and hardener according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Using clean, dry tools and containers will help prevent unwanted reactions or contaminants. Mix slowly and methodically, scraping the sides and bottom of your container to fully combine the two parts and minimise the risk of streaks or cloudy patches. Mixing too aggressively can introduce bubbles, so take your time and mix with care.
- Mix in small batches to maintain control.
- Use a gentle folding motion rather than rapid stirring.
- Let the mixed resin stand for a few minutes to allow bubbles to rise and pop before pouring.

Pouring for Perfection
Before pouring resin over your photo, make sure the image is fully sealed and secured in place to prevent bleeding or warping. Slowly pour the resin from a low height in the centre, allowing it to flow outwards. If bubbles appear, use a toothpick or a heat gun briefly moved over the surface (without lingering in one spot) to gently remove them. Avoid handling or disturbing the surface while the resin settles and cures for a flawless, glassy layer.
For projects requiring flexibility or outdoor durability, consider a specialised doming resin such as Be Flex. Its self-healing, UV-resistant finish provides both clarity and protection.
When Precision Matters Most
Taking extra care with the mixing and pouring process is especially important for one-off or sentimental photos—you only get one chance at a perfect result. Practice your technique with test pieces if you’re new to resin. High-quality resins such as “Trasparente” and “Icrystal” are excellent choices for beginners and offer reliable results with their easy mixing ratios and clarity.
