How to Pick the Right Resin for an Octopus 3D Floor

Start with the pour depth your design needs

Octopus 3D floors usually build the design in layers, so the first decision is how thick each layer needs to be. A clear casting resin rated for the correct depth helps avoid overheating and poor curing. For layers up to 1.5 cm, a clear odourless grade such as Icrystal Clear Epoxy Resin is commonly used. For sections up to 2 cm, a multipurpose clear casting resin may be more appropriate.

Clear finish versus colour work

A transparent 3D floor is often the easiest way to keep the octopus artwork looking sharp. If you plan to tint the resin or add pigment effects, choose a kit that includes a suitable mica powder or use a clear resin with known colour compatibility. The Trasparente resin kit with Sahara mica is one option for adding subtle colour without losing clarity.

If you want no colour shift, pick an unfilled clear grade and avoid adding pigments. Check the product notes for clarity and self-levelling behaviour before casting over printed film or painted details.

When this matters: UV exposure and floor traffic

Rooms with large windows or bright direct light need a resin that helps reduce yellowing. Several clear epoxy systems in this range include a UV filter, but the level of protection varies by product and layer thickness.

For busy floors, scratch resistance becomes more important. A harder clear surface or an additional clear topcoat may be used, but check the manufacturer’s guidance on recoat times and final hardness. Always work in a well-ventilated space and follow the curing schedule.
