Why Sealing Your Photograph Matters

Resin can penetrate unsealed photo paper or inkjet prints, leading to unwanted stains or blurred images. Thoroughly sealing the photograph acts as a barrier, preserving clarity and colour. This step is crucial for both glossy and matte finishes, as it also prevents reactions between the resin and photo ink.

How to Properly Seal Your Print

• Choose an appropriate sealant: Use a clear-drying spray (such as an acrylic fixative) and apply multiple thin coats, allowing each to dry fully before the next.
• Test a small area first: This checks compatibility, especially if you’re using speciality papers or inks.
• Allow full curing: The sealant must be completely dry to avoid trapping moisture or causing cloudiness when the resin is poured.

Once sealed, you can confidently pour a transparent resin such as “Icrystal” Clear Epoxy Resin across the surface for an even, glossy finish up to 1.5cm thick per application.

Tips for a Clean, Lasting Finish

• Work in a dust-free environment so particles don’t settle while the resin cures.
• Use gloves and ensure good ventilation as recommended by resin manufacturers for a safe experience.
• Tilt or level your photograph to help self-levelling resins flow smoothly and avoid pooling at the edges.
