Creating a grey tone or achieving a metallic resin effect is straightforward with the right products. Whether you want a soft grey or a bold metallic sheen, the process relies on selecting and mixing quality pigment in the correct ratio with your epoxy resin.
Mixing Pigments for a Custom Grey Shade
To achieve a specific grey shade, simply combine black and white Colourfun liquid colourants. Begin by adding a minimal amount of black to white pigment and gradually increase until your desired shade appears. Always blend thoroughly before adding further pigment, as colours can deepen as they mix with resin.
- Add white and black gradually—too much black can quickly overpower the mix.
- Test your shade on a small batch before committing to your main pour.
- Aim for a pigment load around 8–10ml per 1kg of resin, but do not exceed the recommended maximum (typically under 5% pigment by mass) to ensure resin cures properly.
Creating a Metallic Grey Resin Effect
If you prefer a shimmering, metallic grey finish, use the grey variety of Sahara mica powder. Mix 5–8g of mica powder per 1kg of resin to achieve a pronounced metallic effect. This creates 3D swirls and pearlescent sheens that come alive under light. Sahara mica is suitable for use in transparent resins and delivers impressive depth and motion within your piece.
- For extra dimension, swirl and layer the resin before it sets.
- As with all pigment additions, start conservatively—more powder can be added for intensity, but excessive amounts may affect resin performance.
