Choosing the right resin is a key step in creating memorial jewellery with ashes, ensuring both clarity and security for the keepsake you wish to cherish for years to come.
Which resin type is best for memorial jewellery?
For memorial jewellery such as pendants, rings, or small keepsakes, using a clear epoxy resin ensures a crystal-clear, durable finish. A high-quality multipurpose resin like “Trasparente” is ideal for pour layers up to 2cm thick, offering long-lasting clarity and UV resistance. If you’re working with shallower bezels or moulds, an alternative such as the odourless Icrystal can provide perfect results for layers up to 1.5cm. For decorative surface finishes, Art Pro delivers excellent clarity in thinner layers.
Pouring and layering guidance
When using resin for jewellery containing ashes, it’s important to keep each layer beneath the recommended thickness—up to 2cm for “Trasparente”, or up to 1.5cm for Icrystal. Thicker pours can cause overheating or cloudiness. Work in a dust-free environment and use gloves for clean handling. Mix slowly to help prevent bubbles and embed the ashes gently within each layer, allowing the resin to fully cure between pours for best results.
When pour depth matters
Pendants and rings are usually best made with a single pour beneath 2cm, but if your design needs greater depth or a layered effect with ashes at different heights, stick to the resin’s guidance and pour in stages. This avoids unwanted heat build-up and ensures lasting clarity.
