Embedding Objects in Epoxy Resin Castings

Embedding objects such as seashells, stones, or keepsakes in epoxy resin castings is a creative way to personalise tables, art pieces, and decorative items. With careful preparation and the right resin, you can achieve clear, durable results.

How to Embed Objects without Trapping Bubbles

To prevent bubbles from forming around embedded items, pour a thin first layer of epoxy resin and allow it to partially set—typically for 20–24 hours. This stabilises the base and helps eliminate trapped air. Once slightly firm but sticky, position your objects on this layer and gently press them in. Then, slowly pour the remaining resin in stages as needed to fully encapsulate the items, helping to avoid unwanted movement and air pockets.

Choosing the Right Epoxy Resin

The type and thickness of your project determine which resin to use. For castings up to 5cm, EpoxyTable 5-Five provides clear results with minimal bubbles and a low-exothermic formula. For deeper or larger castings up to 10cm, consider “Epoxytable 10-Ten” and build depth in layers for optimum clarity and stability. If your project involves thin decorative surfaces or coloured aggregate, “Trasparente” is ideal for that purpose.

Practical Guidance: Placement and Preparation

  • Dry thoroughly: Make sure objects are dry and clean before embedding to prevent cloudiness or future discolouration.
  • Test fit: Arrange everything outside the mould beforehand to plan your composition.
  • Stabilise lightweight items: Use a dot of resin or double-sided tape to hold light objects (like delicate shells) in place, especially if multiple pours are required.

When This Matters

Embedding is especially important for projects where visual clarity and permanence are key—such as display tables, souvenirs, or scenery artwork. Careful layering preserves detail and keeps treasures securely encased for years.
