What should I do if my resin cube doesn’t cure?

If you’ve poured a resin cube and it hasn’t fully cured, don’t worry. Most curing issues can be traced to common but avoidable mistakes. Here’s how to get your resin projects back on track.

Check Your Mix Ratio and Mixing Process

Always follow your epoxy product’s specific resin-to-hardener ratio – this is key to a successful cure. For example, some deep pour resins like EpoxyTable 5-Five require a 100:55 (by weight) mixing ratio, while others such as “Epoxytable 10-Ten” use a 4:1 ratio. Inaccurate measuring is a top cause of tacky or soft resin cubes.

Mix thoroughly, scraping the sides and bottom of your mixing container to ensure all resin and hardener are properly blended. Incomplete mixing can cause areas of your cube to remain sticky or uncured.

Temperature and Pour Depth Matter

Ambient temperature has a strong influence on curing time. Most resins require temperatures around 20–25°C to cure properly. If it’s too cold, curing might stall; if it’s too hot or your pour is too thick, overheating and curing issues can occur. For large or deep resin cubes, always use a product designed for the intended thickness: “Epoxytable 10-Ten” supports pours up to 10cm, while “EpoxyTable 5-Five” is suitable for cubes up to 5cm per layer.

When this matters

  • You notice sticky patches or an entirely soft cube even after the suggested curing time.
  • Your workspace was colder or hotter than usual.
  • You experimented with a new resin or mixed larger volumes than before.
