← Back to How do I make a pendant using UV resin?

Layering and curing UV resin is the secret to beautifully clear, bubble-free pendants. Working in stages helps prevent imperfections and ensures a polished result. Here’s how to master the technique for professional-looking jewellery.
Why Work in Layers?
Pouring and curing UV resin in thin layers (typically up to 3mm at a time) ensures each stage hardens fully, helping to avoid bubbles, warping, or a tacky finish. This process is essential for achieving depth and clarity, especially when embedding decorative pieces or colourants. Layering also allows you to build up intricate effects and adjust your design as you go.
Step-by-Step Layering Technique
- Prepare your setting: Place an open bezel or mould on a stable, level surface.
- Pour the first layer: Add a small amount of UV resin such as the “UV–Creation” Fast Acrylic Resin and gently spread it for an even surface.
- Cure thoroughly: Use a UV lamp to cure the resin for 2–3 minutes (per the resin’s instructions) so it turns completely firm.
- Add and repeat: Continue adding thin layers, curing each fully before adding the next. You can include glitter, dried flowers, or pigment between layers for unique effects.
Be patient; rushing the process can result in cloudy or uneven pendants. Always check each layer is fully cured before proceeding.
When This Matters
Layered curing is especially important when your design includes embedded items, multiple colours, or needs a domed, glossy surface. This approach is widely used with ready-to-use bezels for festive or personalised jewellery creations.
