Curing times: UV resin versus epoxy resin
UV resin is the fastest option for making resin magnets, typically hardening within 2 to 3 minutes under a UV lamp. This quick turnaround is ideal for small projects and instant demoulding. “UV–Creation” fast acrylic resin, for example, cures in minutes and gives a clear, glossy result.
With epoxy resin, curing takes longer. Fast formulations like “ICreation” allow demoulding after approximately 6 hours and achieve a full cure in 12–24 hours. Standard epoxy resins may need up to 24 hours to be completely ready.
Tips for reliable curing
- When working with UV resin, ensure all layers receive consistent exposure to a UV lamp. A lamp is essential—curing won’t occur effectively in sunlight alone.
- For epoxy resins, mix components precisely following instructions, and let your magnets cure at room temperature, undisturbed, for best results.
- Humidity and temperature can affect cure times, so work in a stable environment when possible.
When this matters: Choosing the right approach
If you need quick results or are crafting in batches, UV resin’s speed is a major advantage. For larger or thicker magnets, or if UV equipment isn’t available, fast-setting epoxy might be your preference. Always select a resin suited to the size and style of your project for optimal results.
