Demoulding resin earrings too soon can lead to distortion or loss of clarity in your final piece. Allowing resin to cure fully is a key step to achieve the crisp finish and durability that makes handmade resin jewellery stand out.
Why Full Curing is Essential
Resin undergoes a chemical reaction during curing, transforming from a liquid to a solid. If you remove your earrings from the mould before this process is complete, the resin may still be soft or tacky. This can result in fingerprints, warping, surface marks, or even structural weakness, which spoils the overall look and longevity of your jewellery.
How to Know When Your Resin is Ready
Cure times can vary based on the type of resin you use. Epoxy resins, such as those in our Evershine Collection, typically require 24–48 hours at room temperature. UV resins can set much faster under a UV lamp—sometimes in as little as three minutes—but it’s always best to check the manufacturer’s guidance for your specific product. Gently touch the surface (ideally with gloves); a fully-cured resin will be firm and non-tacky.
Tips for Successful Demoulding
- Make sure your workspace is free from dust, as particles can settle on curing resin and spoil the finish.
- Patience is crucial; even if the piece looks solid, waiting the recommended period ensures the interior is fully set.
- If you feel resistance when demoulding, don’t force the piece out—give it extra time and check again later.
When This Matters Most
Full curing is particularly vital for intricate earring designs with sharp edges or embedded details, as soft resin can easily lose definition or clarity. Taking your time leads to professional-quality, long-lasting results worth showing off.
