← Back to How to embed a flower in a resin cube

One of the most common issues when embedding flowers in resin cubes is the appearance of bubbles. These bubbles can cloud your finished piece and reduce its clarity. By pouring resin in several thinner layers instead of a single thick one, you can significantly improve results and protect the natural beauty of your flowers.
Why Pouring in Layers Prevents Bubbles
When resin is poured too thick, heat from the curing process can cause excessive bubbling, particularly around delicate inclusions like dried flowers. Thinner pours allow trapped air to escape more easily and help achieve a clear, professional look. Taking your time between pours also reduces the risk of flowers shifting or floating.
Steps for Layered Resin Pouring
- Prepare your mould and flowers: Ensure everything is dry and ready. For flower embedding, Natural Dried Flowers work especially well and are pre-prepared for this kind of layering method.
- Mix your resin carefully: Stir slowly to minimise air entrainment. Choose a resin with the right pour depth, such as EpoxyTable 5-Five for up to 5cm layers or “Trasparente” for thinner projects.
- Pour the first thin layer: Allow it to slightly gel before adding flowers. This helps suspend the flowers neatly in your cube.
- Add subsequent layers: Wait for each layer to partially set before pouring the next. Multiple layers reduce heat build-up and allow trapped bubbles to rise and be popped with a toothpick or heat gun.
When Pouring in Layers Matters Most
If you are creating larger resin cubes or embedding complex floral arrangements, pouring in layers is particularly vital. Not only does this technique minimise bubbles, but it also helps retain the position and detail of each flower, resulting in a crystal-clear keepsake that showcases your blooms to their fullest.
