How Do You Prevent Bubbles Around Embedded Writing in Resin?

Trapped bubbles can obscure or distort your carefully embedded writing in resin, but with the right approach, it is possible to achieve a flawless clear finish. Here’s how to minimise bubbles and protect the clarity of your project.

Prepare Materials and Embed Smoothly

Ensure all paper or writing materials are fully dry and, if possible, seal them with a thin layer of clear-drying glue before pouring resin. This helps prevent air from escaping around edges. Place the writing flat in your mould and secure it if needed, so it doesn’t shift when resin is added.

Slow Resin Pouring and Bubble Release

Pour your resin in a slow, steady stream, allowing it to gently flow around the embedded writing. Doing this gradually prevents air pockets from forming. Once poured, use a heat gun or small torch on a low setting, sweeping it lightly across the surface to encourage any trapped air bubbles to rise and pop—take care not to linger in one spot, especially around thin papers or edges.

For projects up to 2cm thick, a clear epoxy such as “Trasparente” is well suited thanks to its controlled curing and self-levelling properties, making bubble release easier.

When Bubble Prevention Matters Most

Bubbles are most likely to form where paper meets resin, or if resin is poured too quickly. They are especially noticeable in deep or highly detailed pours, where clarity is essential for legibility. Taking extra care with preparation and pouring is vital when the written content is to be permanently displayed or commemorated in items like plaques or keepsakes.
