← Back to How do you remove resin from moulds?

Even the most experienced resin artists can run into trouble when cured resin stubbornly clings to a mould. Release issues are common, but certain techniques and the right tools can make a big difference in getting your mould back in top shape.
Gentle Release Techniques
Start by placing the mould in the freezer for 10–20 minutes. The cold helps the resin contract, making it easier to pop out residue that resists normal removal. If that doesn’t do the trick, a gentle push or flex from the mould’s underside often loosens trapped resin pieces.
Choosing the Right Removal Tools
For bits of residue that just won’t budge, use a scraper with a replaceable blade. These are designed to carefully lift resin without damaging smooth silicone mould surfaces. For tougher jobs, a heavy duty scraper provides extra control and leverage—but always work gently to avoid gouging your mould.
Preventing Future Sticking
Prevention is easier than cleanup. Try applying a thin coat of silicone oil to your moulds before pouring resin. This creates a non-stick barrier, helping future castings release smoothly and extending the working life of your moulds.
