Step-by-Step: Sanding for Clarity
The most common cause of cloudiness when filing resin is using an unsuitable grit or skipping sanding steps. Begin with a coarser sandpaper (such as 400-grit) to even out the surface. Gradually move up to finer grits—progress to 800, 1200 and up to 2000-grit, cleaning the surface between each stage. Wet sanding can be very helpful for minimising dust and scratches as you work finer.
- Use gentle, consistent pressure
- Rinse or wipe away dust regularly to avoid re-scratching the resin
- Continue until scratches are barely visible or gone altogether
Finishing With Polish
Even after meticulous sanding, the resin may still appear dull. To restore a clear, glossy finish, apply a plastic polish or a fine abrasive paste. Use a soft, lint-free cloth or a polishing pad, gently working in circles. Several minutes of polishing often brings back the clarity and shine of the resin.
