← Back to How do you polish sanded resin?

If you want to achieve a professional, high-gloss finish on your sanded resin project, choosing and correctly applying the right polish is key. Here’s how you can restore clarity and shine effectively.
Choosing Your Resin Polish and Tools
The final gloss on sanded resin depends both on a suitable polishing compound and using the correct application method. A product like Epoxy Polish is designed specifically for resin finishes. For best results, use a dedicated polishing pad held either by hand (with a pad holder) or mounted on a rotary polisher. While microfibre cloths can help with the final buff, they’re unlikely to generate sufficient friction on their own for a true glossy effect.
Buffing to a Glossy Finish
After sanding your resin with progressively finer abrasives (such as Ebonite Abralon sanding pads from 360 up to 4000 grit), apply a small amount of resin polish to your polishing pad. Work the polish into the surface in slow, overlapping motions—either using a rotary polisher or by hand with firm, even pressure. Continue until the haze disappears and a glossy, clear finish emerges. If cloudiness remains, continue working the polish with your pad rather than switching back to a cloth immediately.
When This Matters Most
Buffing with a true resin polish is especially important after heavy sanding or to remove fine scratches and restore the mirror-like clarity of cured resin. Hobbyists, artists, and anyone seeking a sleek finish benefit from these techniques, especially if the project will be on display or in regular use.
