How do I avoid overheating when curing epoxy?

Keep Pour Depth Under Control

One of the simplest ways to prevent overheating is to avoid pouring layers that are too thick. For general applications, most resins should be poured in layers no thicker than 1.5–2cm. Exceeding this can generate excess heat as the resin cures, potentially causing yellowing, bubbling, or cracking. If your piece needs greater depth, build up the thickness with multiple pours, allowing each layer to cool and cure before adding the next.

For example, the “Trasparente” multipurpose epoxy resin is ideal for up to 2cm thick layers, making it well-suited for jewellery, coasters and small castings without overheating risk.

Avoid Forced Acceleration

It might be tempting to speed up the curing process with a heat gun or by trying to warm up the resin with hot water. However, doing so can create rapid and uncontrolled exothermic reactions, which almost always leads to overheating, warping, or damage to your piece. Always allow the resin to cure at room temperature and follow the manufacturer’s recommendations regarding curing times.
