Why Low Exothermic Reaction Matters

Resins with low exothermic reaction are designed to minimise heat generation during curing. This is critical for deep pours, such as river tables and thick-layer castings, as excessive heat can cause warping, cracking, or cloudy finishes. By reducing heat build-up, low-exotherm resins allow for thicker pours (sometimes up to 5–10cm) in a single layer, reducing the need for time-consuming multi-layer casting.

Selecting the Right Resin for Deep Pour Projects

For most table-making projects, opt for a specialised deep pour resin like Epoxytable 10-Ten, which is formulated for thick castings up to 10cm. For slightly thinner projects, “EpoxyTable 5-Five” allows casting between 2 and 5cm. Always check product guidelines for recommended pour depths and remember to pour in multiple layers for especially large volumes or side lengths over 100cm.

Practical Tips for Better Casting Results

• Work in a well-ventilated area at stable room temperature for optimal cure.
• Prepare your formwork carefully to prevent leaks and ensure the resin stays within the recommended depth.
• Allow sufficient time between layers if casting in stages, to reduce stress and heat accumulation.
• Follow all manufacturer’s instructions closely, including mixing ratios and waiting times.
