← Back to How much resin to use per layer?

Getting the amount of resin right per layer is key to achieving high-quality coasters with an even finish. A little care in measuring ensures your projects have consistency and durability.
Recommended Resin Quantities for Coaster Layers
For a standard coaster, pouring a layer between 5–7mm thick usually requires about 80g of resin component A mixed with 48g of hardener. The exact amount can change depending on your mould’s size and the thickness you want—larger or deeper moulds will naturally need more. Keeping layers at or below 7mm helps avoid overheating and ensures even curing.
- Small or shallow coaster moulds: use slightly less resin.
- For thicker artistic effects, add resin slowly in layers rather than pouring a single deep layer.

Tips for Accurate Resin Measurement
Measuring resin accurately can make or break your project. Using a graduated measuring cup helps you pour just the amount you need for each layer. Always check your mould’s volume first, and mix resin and hardener thoroughly to promote even curing.
When This Matters
Getting your resin ratios right is especially important when creating sets of coasters or working with intricate mould shapes. Careful measurement not only helps achieve a uniform look but also avoids wasted material or under-filled designs.
