Bubbles in live resin casting can spoil an otherwise flawless project. With the right approach, you can achieve crystal-clear surfaces and preserve intricate details in your castings.
Effective Mixing and Pouring Techniques
The first step to avoiding bubbles is to mix your resin slowly and deliberately. Vigorous stirring may introduce unwanted air. Once mixed, pour the resin gently into your mould, directing the flow along the side or a spatula to prevent splashing and air entrapment.
- Stir resin slowly to keep air out
- Pour close to the mould and in a thin stream
- Let each layer settle before adding more
Surface Bubble Removal Methods
Even with careful mixing and pouring, some bubbles may rise to the surface. To deal with these, gently wave a heat gun or craft torch just above the resin. This helps small bubbles break and disappear, resulting in a smooth, glass-like finish. Always keep the heat source moving and do not overheat a spot to avoid damaging the resin surface.
Professional resins, such as Art Pro Deluxe, are formulated to self-level and reduce bubble entrapment, especially suited for detailed or layered work.
When Bubble Control Matters Most
Controlling bubbles is essential for jewellery, deep pours, and fine art where clarity is key. Minimal bubbles ensure shapes, colours, and effects remain crisp and professional—an absolute must for bespoke resin art or when working with embedded items.
