Achieving perfect results with epoxy resin depends on giving each casting ample time to cure before removing it from the mould. The right waiting period ensures both integrity and finish in your work, whether you’re embedding objects or creating decorative pieces.
Standard Curing Times for Epoxy Resin
For thin castings or films—up to around 2cm—epoxy resin typically requires a minimum of 24 to 48 hours to set enough for safe demoulding. If you’re working on deeper pours, such as pieces up to 5cm or even 10cm thick, plan for a longer cure extending to several days. Deeper resin projects take more time due to reduced air exposure and increased volume.
- Thin layers (up to 2cm): 24–48 hours
- Medium pours (up to 5cm): 2–4 days
- Deep casting (5–10cm): Up to 5 days or longer
Advice for Demoulding Without Damage
Patience pays off when demoulding your resin cast. Removing an item too early risks surface imperfections or deformation. Always check your project’s thickness and allow extra time if your workspace is cool or humid, as these conditions slow the cure. For thick pours, products like EpoxyTable 5-Five are specially formulated to minimise issues such as excess heat build-up during curing, but still require several days to ensure a smooth, bubble-free finish.
When Timing Matters Most
Correct curing times are particularly crucial when embedding objects in resin or working with intricate moulds. Rushing the process can compromise the clarity or cause fragile details to warp. Always plan your project timeline to allow for the specific resin’s recommended cure before attempting to demould.
