Choosing between an epoxy glue, a mastic, or a casting resin can be confusing—each is formulated for different jobs. Understanding how their properties and uses differ helps ensure the best result for your project.
Epoxy Glues: Strong, Rapid Bonds
Standard epoxy glues, such as “Klebfix”, are designed for creating tough, quick-setting bonds on materials like plastic, glass, metal, and wood. These adhesives usually set within 5 minutes, making them ideal for urgent repairs and situations where a reliable, clean bond is needed. They’re mixed in straightforward ratios, and often come in easy-dosing syringes for precise application.
Epoxy Mastic: Gap-Filling and Masonry Solutions
Epoxy mastic, such as “Magelstick”, differs from traditional glues due to its thixotropic (paste-like) consistency. This makes it excellent for gap filling, especially on vertical or uneven stone, cement, or metal surfaces. Its slow flow prevents runs or drips, allowing for neat grouting and filling. Mastic is often chosen by masonry professionals or for restoration tasks where strength, weather resistance, and ease of shaping are essential.
Casting Resin: Clear, Decorative Applications
Casting resins like “Trasparente” are formulated for pouring into moulds or over surfaces to create decorative, transparent layers. Unlike glues and mastics, these are not suitable for structural bonding or gap filling. Instead, they excel at producing glossy, glass-like finishes ideal for jewellery, coasters, small table tops, and other creative projects. Most casting resins are designed for pours up to a certain thickness—”Trasparente” is suitable for layers up to 2cm thick.
