← Back to How are resin cabochons made?

UV-curable resin is a superb choice for crafters wanting to produce cabochons quickly. With the right UV resin and lamp, you can achieve a crystal-clear, glossy finish in just a few minutes.
How Fast UV Curing Works
Unlike traditional two-part resins, UV resin is a one-component system that hardens in response to ultraviolet light. When placed under a UV lamp, curing can be complete within 2–3 minutes, making it ideal for speedy jewellery projects and last-minute creations. The result is a non-sticky, robust finish that’s ready for handling or further embellishment almost straight away.

Essential Tools and Product Guidance
To achieve rapid curing, you’ll need a clear UV resin such as “UV–Creation” Fast Acrylic Resin and a suitable UV lamp. This resin is designed specifically for jewellery use, delivering reliable, brilliant results. Using a silicone mould, such as the “Cabochon-15” mould, ensures your cabochons have a smooth, glossy surface straight out of the mould. Simply pour the resin, cure under UV for 2–3 minutes, and demould.
- Always cure in thin layers to ensure even hardening.
- Avoid using dyes or inclusions that block UV light, which can slow curing.
- Check your lamp’s wattage for optimal performance (36W+ is recommended for most UV resins).
When Fast Curing Matters
Quick curing is perfect for makers who prioritise efficiency—be it producing small batches, live demonstration work, or last-minute custom orders. It allows you to rapidly experiment with styles and colours without long wait times between layers or pieces.
