After demoulding resin lures, achieving a flawless finish greatly enhances their appearance and performance. With the right approach, your lures can boast both a smooth surface and striking details.
1. Smoothing the Surface
Begin by checking your lure for any rough edges, seams, or imperfections. Using fine sandpaper (such as 600–1000 grit) is ideal for smoothing out these areas. Start gently and work your way along the lure, keeping your sanding even to avoid flattening details. If your lure requires a particularly smooth finish before painting or clear coating, consider wet sanding for even finer results, rinsing the lure frequently to avoid dust build-up.

2. Painting and Adding Details
Once the lure is clean and smooth, it’s ready for customisation. Polyurethane resins such as IWhite can be painted with acrylic paints once fully cured. For those wanting shimmer or depth, mica powders or metallic pigments can be carefully dusted on prior to sealing with clear resin.
3. Clear Coating for Protection
To give your lure a professional, glossy finish and protect your artwork, a clear resin topcoat can be applied. Fast-curing options like “ICreation” epoxy enable efficient, transparent sealing. Mix and pour according to the manufacturer’s instructions, and allow to cure fully before use. The clear finish not only adds shine but also keeps painted details secure during fishing.
