Calculating Mould Volume and Resin Needs

The first step is to accurately measure your mould’s dimensions (length, width, and depth) as resin requirements scale quickly with size. Use the formula Volume = Length × Width × Depth (in centimetres) to get the cubic centimetre (cc or ml) volume. For more complex shapes, break down the mould into smaller rectangular sections, work out each volume, then add them up.

• For rectangular projects, multiply the measurements directly.
• Add around 5-10% extra resin to cover unforeseen gaps, mould imperfections, or to compensate for resin loss.
• Remember: larger projects require significantly more resin – be sure to check your calculations before bringing out your mixing buckets.

Choosing the Right Resin for Deep Pours

Not all epoxy resins are designed for deep casting, so select one that matches your project’s depth. For thick applications up to 5cm, consider EpoxyTable 5-Five. When Accuracy and Surplus Matter Most

Running short on resin mid-project can result in visible layering lines or unfinished surfaces, which are difficult or impossible to conceal. For very large or deep pours, always mix a little more than your calculation suggests to avoid interruptions or patchy finishes. Using a larger resin kit can also offer better value, reducing overall costs for sizeable projects.
