How Do I Avoid Bubbles in My Cube?

Bubbles are a common challenge when making transparent resin cubes, but with the right technique, you can achieve a flawless, crystal-clear finish. Here’s how to minimise air bubbles in your next casting project.

Preparing and Mixing Resin

For the clearest results, always ensure your resin and hardener are at room temperature before starting. When mixing, pour both components slowly into your mixing cup and use gentle, consistent movements to combine them. Stirring too vigorously introduces excess air, making bubbles more likely to form.

  • Use a flat stirrer to encourage even mixing and reduce air traps.
  • If possible, allow the freshly mixed resin to rest for a few minutes so surface bubbles can rise and pop naturally.

Pouring and Surface Techniques

When you’re ready to pour, do so steadily and in a thin stream, which helps minimise trapped air in detailed or narrow cubes. If bubbles appear on the surface, you can remove them by briefly passing a heat gun, blowtorch, or even by gently exhaling over the surface—this encourages the bubbles to burst. For best results, use a professional mould such as the “Cube Mould” – Square Silicone Mould for Resin, 8.5×8.5cm, as its smooth, non-stick surface further supports a bubble-free finish.

When This Matters Most

Taking extra care to avoid bubbles is particularly important for decorative cubes, jewellery, or when embedding items. Even small bubbles can distort the transparency and reduce the aesthetic appeal of your finished piece.
