← Back to How to calculate epoxy resin quantity?

Measuring the right amount of epoxy resin before you start any project ensures a smooth process and a quality finish. Whether you’re making a table, casting a river feature, or working on smaller crafts, accurate calculation helps prevent wastage and disappointment.
Calculating Your Resin Volume
The most reliable way to work out the quantity of epoxy needed is to measure the length, width, and intended thickness of your project area. Multiply these three figures to get the total volume required. For example, if your table is 100cm long, 40cm wide, and you want a 3cm thick pour, the calculation would be:
- 100cm x 40cm x 3cm = 12,000 cubic cm (or 12 litres)
This calculation works for rectangular or square spaces. For irregular shapes, divide the area into smaller rectangles, calculate each, and then add them together for a close estimate.
Essential Margins and Mixing
Always add a small safety margin—typically an extra 10%—to allow for resin lost to mixing containers, surface absorption or minor spills. This ensures you won’t run short mid-project. When mixing, be sure to follow your chosen product’s ratio guidelines. For instance, the EpoxyTable 5-Five deep pour resin requires careful ratio adherence for best curing and strength. Double-check both your calculations and product instructions before mixing.
When This Matters Most
Precise measurement is crucial for deep pour projects, such as river tables or thick castings. Overestimating leads to wastage, while underestimating can cause unsightly layer lines. If using high-viscosity resins or working with wood that may absorb resin, factoring in an extra margin becomes even more important.
