What Does ‘Low Exothermic’ Mean?

During the curing process, epoxy resin can generate substantial heat—a process known as an exothermic reaction. A low exothermic resin is specially formulated to minimise heat build-up, helping to prevent problems like overheating, cracking, or unwanted bubbles. This makes low exothermic resins the preferred option for deeper pours and large moulds.

Why Is It Important for Deep Pours?

The thicker the resin pour, the more heat is produced during curing. With standard resins, excessive warmth can cause issues such as warping, hazing or even dangerous fumes. Products like Epoxytable 10-Ten are designed with a low exothermic reaction, making them suitable for pours up to 10cm thick. This allows for safer, clearer results even in large tables or substantial artistic castings.

Choosing the Right Epoxy Resin

• For deep pours (up to 10cm): Select products explicitly labelled as low exothermic, such as Epoxytable 10-Ten, to ensure minimal overheating.
• For medium or thin layers: Multipurpose resins like “Trasparente” (up to 2cm) or “Icrystal” (up to 1.5cm) are ideal for small projects, crafts, or design pieces.
• Follow application instructions carefully, and avoid using heat guns or curing aids unless the product specifies this is safe.
