Achieving a flawless, thick resin surface can be tricky, especially when bubbles become trapped in deep pours. With the right techniques and resin choice, you can minimise or even eliminate bubbles and produce crystal-clear results for your project.

Choose the Right Deep Pour Resin

Use a purpose-made deep pour epoxy, such as “Epoxytable 10-Ten”, which is designed to allow bubbles to rise naturally during its extended curing time. These low viscosity resins reduce the likelihood of bubble entrapment and are best suited for thick applications on countertops, tables, and artistic crafts.

Pouring Techniques for Bubble Reduction

To help bubbles escape, always mix and pour your resin slowly. Avoid vigorous stirring as it introduces excess air. After pouring, allow the resin to sit undisturbed for several minutes; during this period, bubbles will rise to the surface where they can naturally pop. You may also use a heat gun or torch with great care to gently encourage bubbles to burst at the surface, but take care not to overheat or scorch the resin.

Project Planning: Layering for Large Pours

If your project is particularly large—such as a pour over 100cm per side or more than 8kg in weight—it is often best to split the casting into several layers, each up to 5–10cm thick.
