Resin castings over several centimetres thick tend to build up significant heat (exothermic reaction), which can risk overheating, cracking, or poor curing—especially in narrow moulds where airflow and cooling are limited. Bubble formation can also be a concern, so a resin formulated for deep pours is ideal. Thorough planning is essential to achieve the best results.

Choosing the Right Epoxy Resin

For items up to around 9.7cm thick and 4cm wide, a specialist deep pour epoxy is required. Epoxytable 10-Ten is formulated for single pours up to 10cm thick, making it a reliable choice for most deep casting needs. If cost is a concern and your project stays within 5cm per pour, EpoxyTable 5-Five can be used instead—simply pour your casting in two or more stages, allowing each layer to cure fully to control heat and enhance clarity.

For casting depths under 5cm per pour: use “EpoxyTable 5-Five”, casting in two layers if necessary.
For single-stage deep pours up to 10cm: select “Epoxytable 10-Ten” for best results.

Tips for Successful Deep, Narrow Pouring

Work in a well-ventilated space away from direct heat, and mix the resin thoroughly but gently to avoid trapping excess air. Always follow the manufacturer’s timings between pours for multilayer casts. Using a slow-curing, low-exothermic resin is crucial—take your time and allow adequate curing before demoulding.
