When it comes to casting epoxy resin thicker than 5cm, not every formula is up to the task. Standard resins may overheat or cure unevenly at this depth, so choosing the right deep pour epoxy—and using it properly—is essential for professional, clear results.
Recommended Epoxy Resins for Deep Casts
For projects exceeding 5cm in thickness, specialised deep pour resins are designed to handle bulk applications without excessive heat build-up or trapped bubbles. Epoxytable 10-Ten is recommended for pours up to 10cm, offering remarkable clarity, low exothermic reaction, and a longer working time, which reduces the risk of overheating. For pours in the 5cm range, EpoxyTable 5-Five is ideal and can be applied in multiple layers to increase total thickness safely. Both options contain strong UV filters for clarity and are suitable for large-scale table and artistic projects.
How to Approach Very Thick Casts
If any side of your project exceeds 100cm or your total resin volume is large, even with deep pour resins, it is best to apply in two or more layers. Waiting 6–8 hours between layers helps control curing temperature and prevents imperfections. Always follow manufacturer guidance for mixing ratios and application methods to achieve the best results. Pouring in layers is particularly important for avoiding cracks, warping, or incomplete curing in thick sections.
When This Matters Most
- Large tabletops, ‘river’ tables, thick furniture pieces, and artistic installations where clarity and structural strength are critical.
- Any project where safety, structural reliability, and a flawless, bubble-free finish is required at depths of 5cm and beyond.
