← Back to What can be used as a release agent for epoxy resin?

When working with epoxy resin, it’s important to understand the function of each preparation product. While degreasers and release agents may sound similar, they serve very different purposes.
What Does a Degreaser Do?
A strong technical degreaser, such as the Strong Technical Degreaser for Resin Projects, is formulated to remove grease, silicone residues, and dirt from surfaces. Its main function is cleaning and providing a contaminant-free base before resin application. Using a degreaser ensures optimal resin adhesion to prepared areas. However, it does not prevent epoxy from bonding to surfaces or support easy release after curing.

How are Release Agents Different?
Release agents are specifically designed to create a non-stick barrier between epoxy resin and the mould or substrate. This barrier allows for smooth demoulding once the resin has set, preventing sticking and potential damage. Products like the Global A2 Release Wax or Shiny Shield Glossy Release Film are true release agents, formulated to support clean removal of cured resin from moulds or frames.
When This Matters
If your goal is to clean moulds or surfaces before resin work, a degreaser will be handy. But if you want to ensure your resin piece comes away smoothly after curing, a dedicated release agent is essential.
