← Back to How to Prepare a Surface for Resin-Bound Drainage Floors

Applying decorative pebble flooring with resin binder creates a hardwearing, attractive finish for driveways and outdoor spaces. Getting the thickness right is essential for both performance and a long-lasting result.
Why Thickness Makes a Difference
The thickness of a resin-bound surface determines how well it withstands daily pressures, weather, and regular use. Too thin, and the flooring may become vulnerable to cracking, loosening pebbles, or inadequate drainage. For decorative pebble floors using Trasparente binder, the advised thickness is at least 2 cm for driveways, supporting vehicle weights, and 1.5 cm for footpaths, patios, and other outdoor zones with lighter loads.
- 2 cm – Recommended minimum for driveways or any area exposed to vehicles
- 1.5 cm – Sufficient for patios, pathways, or garden features
How to Measure and Achieve the Correct Depth
Before mixing resin with pebbles, set guides or edging at the right height to ensure an even layer throughout your project. Use a straight edge to help maintain a level finish as you spread the resin-stone mix. For best results, combine Trasparente epoxy binder with pre-washed pebbles designed for resin-bound floors. One 25kg bag of pebbles typically covers around 1 square metre at the recommended depth.
When Thickness Matters Most
Ensuring the minimum specified thickness is especially important in high-traffic areas or where surfaces may need to resist heavier loads, such as driveways, entrances, or public pathways. Adhering to thickness guidelines helps your surface last longer and perform reliably in all weather conditions.
