Selecting the right paper is the foundation of an attractive and lasting project when embedding words or phrases in transparent resin. The type of paper you choose directly affects clarity and helps prevent unwanted bleeding or distortion during curing.
Choosing Your Paper
For neat, crisp results, opt for waterproof substrates or laser-printed papers. Laser prints use toner, which won’t dissolve in resin and thus keeps text sharp and lines defined. Alternatively, pigment-based inkjet prints on quality paper can also work, as pigment ink sits on the surface and is less prone to running compared to standard water-based inks. Photo paper, particularly with pigment inks, can give the best clarity for detailed phrases.
Preparation and Sealing
No matter which type you select, always seal both sides of your printed message thoroughly before embedding. Acrylic sprays or clear-drying glues are commonly used for this. Even waterproof or laser-printed papers benefit from sealing, as it prevents resin from penetrating fibres and causing blurred or faded lettering. Allow your sealant to dry completely between coats for best results.
Practical Guidance for Resin Embedding
Once paper is sealed and cut to size, test with a small amount of resin on a spare strip to check for any reaction. For beginner projects or detailed decorative work, an ultra-clear resin like “Trasparente” epoxy resin is ideal, as it offers a glass-like finish and maintains transparency. Take care to eliminate bubbles around the embedded paper for a truly clear final effect.
When This Matters
The choice of paper is especially important if your project will be displayed in bright or sunny locations, or if you want to ensure legibility for keepsakes and gifts. Proper selection and sealing prevent disappointing outcomes and preserve your embedded message’s crispness over time.
