Application: Repairing a Loose Pebble Floor with Resin

Addressing areas where a pebble floor has become loose can dramatically improve both the durability and appearance of outdoor surfaces. Using the correct application process for resin ensures long-lasting results and a renewed finish.

Preparation and Surface Cleaning

Before starting, remove any debris, moss, and loose stones from the affected area. For patch repairs, lift unstable sections, clean both the substrate and the loose pebbles thoroughly, and let them dry completely. This promotes proper adhesion and helps the resin bond effectively.

Mixing Resin and Pebbles

Resin application is straightforward and can be done at home. In most cases, pebbles should be mixed with the resin binder in a suitable mixing bucket or, for larger jobs, a cement mixer. Carefully follow the resin-to-stone ratio recommended by the supplier—typically around 3% resin by weight for coloured aggregates. For best results and colour retention, use a low-yellowing epoxy such as the “Trasparente” Epoxy Binder for coloured or dark pebbles or a non-yellowing polyurethane for light-coloured stones.

Application Technique and Curing

Once the pebbles are fully coated, re-lay and compact the mixture onto the prepared area, ensuring an even and level finish. Avoid working in very low temperatures, high heat, or high humidity, as these conditions can affect the adhesion and curing of the resin. The surface should typically become walkable after around 10 hours, with full curing reached within 24 hours depending on conditions.

When This Matters

  • Repairs are crucial for preventing further loosening and reducing trip hazards.
  • Restoring the binder ensures drainage and protects the surface from weather damage.
