Which Resin for Thick or Thin Coatings?

Choosing the right epoxy resin is essential for achieving a smooth and durable finish on any table project. The thickness of your layer will largely determine which product is best suited for your needs.

Selecting Resin by Coating Thickness

For thin coatings and detailed work, a multipurpose clear resin like “Trasparente” is ideal. This option is recommended for layers up to 2cm, offering an ultra-clear, self-levelling finish that’s suitable for table tops, art projects, or inlays.
When working with thicker layers—between 2cm and 5cm—consider a deep pour formula such as EpoxyTable 5-Five. For very deep castings up to 10cm, for example in river tables or large decorative castings, Epoxytable 10-Ten is the most suitable choice.

Practical Guidance for Application

  • Thin layers (≤2cm): Use a clear, multipurpose resin for best clarity and minimal bubble formation. Avoid pouring beyond recommended thickness, as it may lead to overheating or curing issues.
  • Medium layers (2–5cm): Select a deep-pour resin with a slow curing profile. Pour gradually and allow time for bubbles to rise and dissipate.
  • Thick layers (≤10cm): For substantial pours, opt for resins specifically formulated for extra depth. For very large surfaces or high weights, layering the pour with waiting periods may be necessary for safe curing.

When This Matters

Choosing the correct resin is especially crucial for projects where clarity, strength, and cure reliability are important—such as dining tables, display pieces or creative furniture. Using the wrong type can lead to problems like heat buildup, yellowing, or incomplete hardening, particularly in deep pours.
