How Do I Prevent Bubbles When Pouring Resin?

Tiny air bubbles can spoil the clarity and detail of resin figurines. Fortunately, with a few careful techniques and product choices, you can dramatically reduce bubbles when pouring resin into your moulds.

Pouring Techniques for Bubble-Free Castings

Poor pouring habits are one of the most common causes of trapped air. Always pour resin slowly in a thin stream, starting at the lowest part of the mould. This allows the resin to flow smoothly and push air out before it gets trapped. Avoid dumping all the resin at once.

If your project involves intricate moulds or fine details, gently tap or flex the mould after pouring. This helps any small bubbles rise and escape to the surface. For stubborn bubbles in corners or around fine features, use a toothpick to tease them out gently.

Preparing the Mould and Selecting Products

Choosing the right mould and resin makes a noticeable difference. Flexible silicone moulds, such as those made with “Pure Mould” – Translucent Liquid Silicone Rubber for Mould Making, allow you to manipulate the mould for easy bubble release. Some resins—like IWhite Casting Resin—are highly fluid, helping bubbles escape more easily. Always ensure your mould is clean and completely dry before pouring, as moisture can introduce additional bubbles.

When This Matters Most

Bubble prevention matters crucially when creating clear figurines or any project where surface detail is essential. DIY keepsakes, miniatures, memorial jewellery and models all benefit from care at this stage, as visible bubbles can detract from the final finish.
