Achieving flawless, bubble-free resin crystals is a top goal for crafters and artists. With a few careful techniques, you can create gleaming, clear crystal castings every time.
Mixing: The Gentle Approach
Bubbles often form during mixing, especially if the resin is stirred too quickly or forcefully. It’s best to slowly fold the resin and hardener together rather than whipping or shaking. Letting the freshly mixed resin rest for a few minutes allows trapped air to rise to the surface naturally. For ultra-clear results, choose a high-transparency resin like “Icrystal” – Clear Epoxy Resin, which is formulated to minimise bubbles with proper technique.
Pouring Tips for Crystal Clarity
When moving the resin from mixing cup to mould, pour slowly and steadily in one spot, letting the flow fan out naturally. Aim for a thin stream; this helps break surface tension and prevents air pockets. If your mould has detailed sections, a toothpick or cocktail stick can help guide resin gently into corners, further reducing the chance of bubbles getting trapped.
Dealing With Stubborn Bubbles
Even with careful mixing and pouring, small bubbles might still appear on the surface. Briefly passing a heat gun or hair dryer (on its lowest setting) about 10–15 cm above the resin will encourage bubbles to rise and pop. Be gentle—too much heat or moving the gun too close may cause issues like rippling or premature curing. Allow the filled mould to sit undisturbed after pouring for best clarity.

Minimising bubbles is especially important when casting clear jewellery, crystal clusters, or decorative pieces where every flaw can be seen. Investing the time into slow, careful processes makes all the difference in highly transparent projects.
