Embedding objects into resin is a striking and versatile way to personalise and decorate a table. With the right resin and careful preparation, you can showcase cherished items or create unique designs within your tabletop.
What Can You Embed in Resin?
A wide range of objects can be used, such as photos, dried flowers, coins, shells, small trinkets or decorative materials. It’s crucial that all items are fully dry, clean, and free from oils or dirt, as any trapped moisture can affect the clarity and bond of the resin. Materials like paper, wood, fabric, and metal are commonly used, but always check their compatibility with epoxy before embedding.
How to Safely Embed Objects
- Preparation: Lay out and test the arrangement of your objects on the bare table first. Seal porous objects (like paper or dried flowers) with a thin layer of clear adhesive or resin to prevent bubbles.
- Resin Pour: Pour a thin base layer of epoxy, position your objects gently, then pour the remaining resin in one or multiple layers, following the recommended maximum thickness (e.g., up to 2cm for products like “Trasparente” clear casting resin). For deeper tables, consider deep pour resins up to 5cm per layer.
- Finishing: Remove any bubbles with a heat gun and allow the resin to cure undisturbed in a dust-free space.
Choosing the Right Resin for the Job
Select a resin based on your project’s thickness and size. For thin encapsulations and detailed designs, opt for high-clarity epoxy designed for castings up to 2cm. For embedding bulkier objects requiring more depth, a deep pour resin like the one included in the “River-Table” Complete Kit or “EpoxyTable 5-Five” is better suited. Always follow product guidelines on layer thickness to maintain clarity and strength.
When Embedding Objects Matters
Embedding is ideal when you want to preserve sentimental keepsakes, create a statement centrepiece, or permanently showcase a collection. This technique can turn an ordinary table into a captivating, tailored piece of decor.
