How Can I Reduce Bubbles in My Resin?

Bubbles in resin artwork can disrupt the smooth, glassy finish that many creators are after. With a bit of technique and preparation, you can greatly reduce the risk of trapped air spoiling your finished piece.

Why Do Bubbles Form in Resin?

Bubbles usually appear when air is incorporated during the initial mixing of resin and hardener. Pouring too quickly or agitating the mix can also trap additional air, which is then carried into your mould or onto your surface. Being aware of how and when bubbles appear is the first step to preventing them.

Mixing and Pouring Techniques to Minimise Bubbles

  • Mix Gently: Stir your resin slowly, taking care not to whip air into the mixture. Scrape the sides and bottom of your container for even blending.
  • Pour Steadily: Pour resin at a slow, continuous rate to avoid introducing fresh air during transfer.
  • Let the Mixture Rest: Allow the blended resin to settle for a few minutes before pouring. This allows many of the tiny bubbles to rise and pop naturally.
  • Apply a Torch: After pouring, pass a small butane torch or a heat gun lightly over the surface. The heat will help draw out and pop remaining bubbles but take care not to overheat or scorch the resin.

For beginners, structured lessons such as the Online Video Course – Christmas Tree Decorations Masterclass offer step-by-step demonstrations to perfect your technique.

When Bubble Control Matters Most

If you’re crafting transparent pieces, deep layers, or decorations where clarity is key, bubble prevention is especially important. Not only do bubbles affect aesthetics, but they can also impact the durability of your finished work.
