← Back to How to Make Erasers Using Silicone?

Encountering a stubborn eraser that won’t release from your silicone mould can be frustrating. Luckily, there are several gentle techniques you can use to help remove your eraser without damaging your work or mould.
Effective Removal Techniques
The safest way to dislodge a stuck eraser is to use gentle, even pressure combined with warm water. Hold the mould under a stream of warm water and slowly flex the silicone. This temperature difference helps the material relax, making it easier for the eraser to release. Avoid using sharp objects or excessive force, as these can tear the mould or mar your eraser.
- Flex the mould gently rather than twisting or pulling sharply.
- If resistance persists, soak the mould for a few minutes in lukewarm (not hot) water before attempting removal again.
Preventing Future Sticking
To keep erasers and other castings from sticking in future projects, consider applying a silicone-safe release agent to the interior of your mould before pouring your casting material. These sprays or brush-on formulas create a barrier that reduces friction and improves the longevity of both your mould and the items you make.
Products such as the “Pure Mould” Translucent Liquid Silicone Rubber are designed to be durable and have good release properties, but a release agent adds extra protection—especially if you are making multiple casts or working with intricate shapes.
When This Matters Most
Sticking issues commonly arise with detailed or small moulds, such as for custom erasers or craft projects. Paying attention to preparation steps is particularly useful if you’re using reusable silicone moulds like the “3 Sphere” silicone mould, which is favoured for its non-stick surface.
