How to Prevent Resin Sticking: Using Release Wax for Moulds

Ensuring resin pieces come out cleanly from their moulds often boils down to using the right release agent. A quality release wax forms a barrier that stops resin from bonding to the mould, making demoulding simple and protecting your equipment from damage.

Why Use Release Wax for Resin Moulds?

If you’ve struggled with resin sticking or damaging your moulds, a specialised release wax is the answer. Global A2 – Release Wax is formulated for use with epoxy and other common resins, creating a durable film on surfaces such as wood, metal, plastic, and cardboard. This barrier minimises adhesion, ensures a cleaner release, and extends the lifespan of your moulds.

How to Apply Release Wax Effectively

  • Clean your mould: Ensure the mould is free from dust, residue, or previous release agents. A mild degreaser, like a natural formula cleaner, can help.
  • Apply an even coat: Using a brush or spray, lightly cover the entire surface with the liquid wax. Avoid excess, as a thin layer is enough.
  • Allow to dry: For Global A2, drying takes just 2-3 minutes. Once dry, the mould is ready for resin pouring.

For best results, reapply before each new casting session, especially if you’re working with complex shapes or several pours.

When This Matters

This step is crucial if you’re working with detailed moulds, need to preserve intricate designs, or frequently reuse moulds for various resin projects. High-temperature resin casting also benefits from waxes like Global A2, which is resistant up to 180°C.
