Resin manufacturers specify a maximum recommended layer thickness for very good reason. Exceeding these limits can lead to excessive heat build-up, which may result in rapidly rising temperatures, cracking, discolouration, or a sticky, partially cured surface. For example, “Trasparente” multipurpose clear epoxy resin is formulated for safe pouring up to 2cm per layer, while “Icrystal” is best for up to 1.5cm, and “Liquidissima” works well up to 1cm. Sticking to these guidelines helps ensure each layer cures completely and maintains excellent clarity.

Consequences of Pouring Too Thick

Pouring thicker than a product’s guidance can cause uncontrolled exothermic reactions. This often leads to overheating, which can damage the resin, cloud your project, and even risk warping or safety hazards. A resin pour done too thick might not cure evenly, leaving soft or sticky spots that won’t harden properly.

For deep pours, always work in layers—let each layer cure before adding the next.
