Embedding objects or natural elements like flowers in resin spheres creates unique pieces for decoration or jewellery. Achieving clear, bubble-free results calls for the right approach and materials.
Best Way to Embed Items in Resin Spheres
To suspend inclusions neatly within a resin sphere, allow your resin to partially gel in the mould before placing any flowers or objects. Pour the initial layer, wait until it has thickened but not fully cured, then gently insert your chosen items. This helps keep them from sinking or floating unevenly.
Using a highly transparent, deep-casting resin helps display embedded details beautifully. For smaller spheres, choose quality silicone moulds with a polished interior for an easy release and smooth finish.
Choosing Suitable Materials & Moulds
Not all resins or moulds deliver the same clarity or ease of use. Silicone sphere moulds such as the “3 Sphere” – Silicone Mould for Jewellery and Crafts support castings in 1, 1.5, and 2.5 cm sizes, ideal for jewellery or display pieces. For the clearest finish, select a resin designed for deep pours, such as EpoxyTable 5-Five (up to 5cm thick) or, for especially large or thick pieces, Epoxytable 10-Ten (up to 10cm).
- Dry natural inclusions like flowers thoroughly to avoid moisture issues.
- Work in thin layers for larger objects or complex layouts.
- Avoid overfilling mould cavities; allow for slight resin expansion during curing.
When This Matters Most
Careful embedding is particularly important if you want flawless presentation—especially when creating keepsakes, personalised gifts, or art pieces where suspended items are the focal point.
